SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE MEETING: Workshops on ‘PECS looking forward’ held in February 2021

Although the ongoing pandemic and lockdown restrictions hinder travels, fieldwork and personal meetings, the Programme Office and the Scientific Committee (SC) of PECS has set ambitious goals for the coming year, 2021.

In February 2021, the SC met online for two workshops on envisioning PECS’ future: As PECS was constituted 10 years ago, it is time to launch a new phase of PECS and to think about advancing the latest frontiers of social-ecological science. Against this background, the goal of the workshops was to reflect on past actions and use this as a basis for developing future key themes for PECS to guide the next work programme and activities.

The SC discussed challenges of doing comparative, place-based research. The discussion included topics, such as politics of stewardship, intersectionality, scaling up, as well as questions on how to navigate towards a sustainable future with uncertainty.

The new themes will be used to update the science plan and in the coming months, the SC will reach out to  the wider PECS community to feedback on these themes, and eventually propose new working groups. So, stay tuned!
